What Is Lung Cancer?
Lung cancer begins when cells in the lungs grow and divide in an uncontrolled way, forming tumors that can interfere with breathing and overall lung function. Because early symptoms are often mild or mistaken for other conditions, many cases are diagnosed at a more advanced stage. At Premier Cancer Center in Clearwater, FL, we focus on helping patients navigate the realities of this diagnosis with clarity and support. Dr. Taghrid Altoos and Dr. Eric Brooks bring deep clinical insight and a calming, educational approach to each consultation, guiding patients through the complexities of lung cancer with care and confidence. Additionally, Dr. Brooks is a nationally and internationally recognized leader in lung cancer care, known for his clinical expertise, research contributions, and dedication to advancing treatment standards for patients.
How Is Lung Cancer Treated?
Depending on the stage and type of lung cancer, treatment may include surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or radiation therapy. For patients who are not surgical candidates, or when additional precision is needed, our team uses TrueBeam™ radiation therapy to deliver targeted treatment directly to the tumor. TrueBeam's accuracy is especially important in the chest where protecting healthy lung tissue, the heart, and surrounding structures is critical. Dr. Altoos and Dr. Brooks bring academic-level training and continual education to every case, offering care that combines trusted technology with personal attention. Dr. Brooks is a nationally and internationally recognized leader in lung cancer care, known for his clinical expertise, research contributions, and dedication to advancing treatment standards for patients.
What Are the Symptoms of Lung Cancer?
Lung cancer symptoms can be easy to overlook at first. If you're experiencing any of the following, it's worth getting evaluated:
- Persistent cough or coughing up blood
- Shortness of breath or wheezing
- Ongoing chest pain
- Unexplained weight loss or fatigue
- Recurring respiratory infections
Not every symptom means cancer, but getting the right answers early can make a significant difference.
Lung Cancer Reviews
Next level care - My dad was seen by Dr. Brooks for lung cancer. Dad was a Vietnam Veteran suffering from serious heath issues from exposure to Agent Orange. He had VA and Medicare HMO insurance which made getting approval for treatment complicated. When I phoned with questions, Dr. Brooks returned my call himself and patiently explained everything. Dad had to cancel his 1st treatment appointment due to heart issues. Dr. Brooks called to check on him and reassured him that his cancer would still be treatable whenever his heart issues improved. This was a tremendous comfort to my dad and our family. My dad died a few weeks later from heart issues having never been able to begin his cancer treatment. He had the same PCP for 30 years, the same cardiologists for 15 and 25 years. They were great doctors who provided excellent care. We received nice cards from their offices. Dr. Brooks was the only doctor who personally called me with his condolences. He had seen my dad twice. TWICE. Dr. Brooks is next level.
